This project investigates how shared space can support community within residential environments. The work began with an analysis of existing housing structures and patterns of use. The research focused on how circulation, thresholds and communal areas influence encounters between residents and shape everyday routines.
Based on this research, the project developed a spatial system organized around a central courtyard and a network of shared spaces distributed throughout the building. These areas connect pairs of apartments and create moments where private and collective life intersect. The layout explores how proximity, visibility and access can encourage informal interaction while maintaining individual living space.
The project approaches housing as a designed system rather than a static structure. Through research, spatial prototyping and iterative planning, it examines how the organization of space can influence behavior, support community and create environments where people live alongside one another in a more connected way.
